The Heidt Law Firm, PLLC · Fairfax, Virginia
The Heidt Law Firm is led by Alex Heidt, whose executive career spans 25 years in the defense contracting industry — including senior roles at Harris Corporation, Alion Science and Technology, Lockheed Martin, and Orbital Sciences. That executive background shapes the firm’s approach to business law, government contracts, and corporate M&A representation today.
Alex Heidt’s career began not in a law office, but in the defense industry, where he spent more than 25 years rising through the ranks of major contractors in government contracting. A Marine by background, he brought to every engagement the same discipline, situational awareness, and bias for action that defined his service — traits that later proved decisive in boardrooms, on forward operating bases, and across negotiating tables on six continents.
At Orbital Sciences, Alex served as Executive in Contracts and Finance. At Harris Corporation, he served as Senior Vice President of Air Force Programs and Business Development. At Alion Science and Technology, he served as Senior Vice President of Navy Programs. At Lockheed Martin, he served as Director of Contracts & Strategy and Vice President, leading the contracts and business strategy department, international IT operations, and negotiations with the U.S. government, the United Nations, and foreign nations. His work took him into Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Liberia, and Australia, and included a central role in more than $15B+ in M&A experience.
Among the matters Alex engaged on at the executive level: emergency humanitarian negotiations in Darfur with the United Nations; resolution of disputed payments with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory following Lockheed’s acquisition of OAO; and engagement on the reopening of commercial air travel between the United States and Liberia.
Alex also led the effort that won Lockheed Martin’s Australian Tax Office IT services contract — the firm’s market entry into the Australian market. In Afghanistan, he engaged on-site with a contract facing termination and secured continued customer engagement and additional program work. In M&A and restructuring work, he identified recoverable value in the OAO contract portfolio before closing and restructured a NASA IDIQ operation post-close.
After 25 years in senior executive roles in the defense industry, Alex Heidt founded The Heidt Law Firm, PLLC. The firm’s clients require legal counsel who understands not only the language of a contract, but the financial mechanics underneath it — counsel who can read a milestone schedule and identify cash-flow risk, review invoicing inside a NASA IDIQ, or engage directly with institutional counterparties such as the United Nations on complex disputes.
Armed with a Juris Doctor, a Master of Arts in Finance, and decades of executive responsibility, Alex practices law with direct command of the business reality underneath the legal issue. This includes evaluating contracts for both compliance and structural leverage, and identifying both risk and opportunity in business decisions. That perspective is especially valuable in business law, government contracts, corporate disputes, estate planning for executives, and appeals where precision matters most.
That perspective carries across the full practice. In litigation, Alex has obtained emergency relief in fraud matters, addressed default judgments through financial recovery, and applied careful appellate record review. In government contracts, he has engaged on programs facing termination, resolved payment matters with institutional counterparties, and advised on 8(a), NHO, ANC, and tribal entity structures. In corporate and strategic matters, he brings the same business judgment applied to the executive-level transactions that preceded the firm.
Today, Alex leads two complementary practices from Fairfax, Virginia. Through The Heidt Law Firm, PLLC, he provides legal counsel in business law, government contracts, 8(a) and tribal entity law, corporate law and M&A, contract law, government law, estate planning, estate litigation, and appeals. Through Heidt Strategic Advisors, he provides strategic advisory services to defense contractors, government-focused businesses, and senior executives in areas such as BD pipeline development, government contracting growth, international market entry, M&A targeting and due diligence, P&L restructuring, and executive strategy.
He is also committed to the Northern Virginia community, having served on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association and as a board member of the Fairfax Law Foundation. That same commitment to preparation, follow-through, and long-term relationships carries into every client engagement.
